INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY

We are very excited to introduce an INTERNATIONAL ARTIST IN RESIDENCY for the FIRST TIME at Physical Fest 2019!
The incredible Japanese artist, Izumi Ashizawa just arrived in Liverpool! She's going to stay for 3 weeks creating her new show especially for Physical Fest 2019- a UK premiere!!!

I got to know her and Matthew Austin at Tmesis’s office. They are such nice people! They seemed so happy and excited to be part of our festival :D

Their energy was really contagious, even when we had to carry their huge suitcases of shoes to the rehearsal room which is on the second floor - and the lift is broken!

Take a sneaky peek of the first rehearsals :D

Press PLAY and get to know more about Izumi and Matthew!!!

‘I CRIED BECAUSE I HAD NO SHOES UNTIL…’ (JAPAN)
TUESDAY 11TH JUNE - Unity Theatre 7.30PM (£12/£15)

I just popped into a rehearsal and YOU CAN'T MISS THIS SHOW TOMORROW !!!

Real, nostalgic, dreamlike memories all interwine, collide, and dissolve in this powerful, physical performance, exploring ‘Shoes’ in gender and racial politics.

Incorporating traditional Japanese performance styles and puppetry, Izumi Ashizawa creates a hauntingly beautiful performance.

Are you ready to know the audience feedback about “I Cried Because I Had No Shoes Until…”?! SCROLL DOWN!!!

"A heartfelt and honest piece."

"Wow- incredible piece with so much to think about!"

"The performance fed me ideas of voyeurism, gender and how objects can control us."

‘Enhanced by excellent live music and atmospheric lighting, this is a remarkable piece of theatre and sets the tone for what will surely be an excellent festival, with something for everyone.’ Northwestend ★★★★
