Day 1
And so it
begins....
I have to admit,
I was a bit nervous about the first rehearsal. I really didn’t know what to
expect: 14 artists in the same room creating a brand new performance!!! I just
hoped that we would find a way to work together that could please everybody.
At the
beginning, Elinor proposed a duo exercise so we could meet each other and I
picked the sweet Chloe, our Nellie Bly, who was missing her two dogs so much. Then, in a circle,
we shared the information about our colleague! Everybody was smiling and had so
much in common, even the fact that we come from different countries!
Rebecca is from
USA, Karen is from Scotland, Zoe and Chloe are from Ireland, Katerina is from
Greece and Dorcas is from Congo.
The energy
in the room was so amazing that I could already guess that we would be great working
together.
And that was
exactly what happened. CHECK OUT HERE!!! PHOTOS DON’T LIE!!!
At the end of the
day, I was really tired but I couldn’t wait for the next day.
Day 2
Every morning I
opened the rehearsal’s room door and I could feel how cheerful everybody was in
spite of the tiredness.
It seemed that I
knew these girls for years. It’s amazing how we work as an ensemble: so
generous, kind, creative and available to accept other proposals. I wish I
could find this energy elsewhere.
Here are the
women that you’ll see represented in our performance:
Becca - Ruth Bader
Ginsburg; Mariana Pires (me) - Frida Kahlo; Katy Treble- Cleopatra; Sophie K. – Emmeline
Pankhurst; Karen – Boudicca; Katerina - Maria Callas; Sophie C. - Marie Curie; Sophie T. - Elizabeth I; Zoe - Anne
Lister; Jess - Gertrude
Ederle; Jade - Amelia
Earhart; Dorcas - Harriet Tubman; Chloe - Nellie Bly; Alice - Malala
Yousafzai.
What a great
contribution to the process!
Eleni paid attention
to every detail of the movement with so much precision! Always so kind and
gentle, respecting our timing and progress.
We had so much fun creating the choreographies!!!
P.S. She has the
sweetest voice in the world.
Day 5
Speaking about
great women… Elinor.
This strong
woman, always giving us energy and making the process really funny, enjoyable
and peaceful. She is a person you can completely trust to guide you during the whole
process and to make sure that the real message is getting to the audience (which
didn’t happen with some directors I worked with).
Elinor gives us
freedom to work as an ensemble, to purpose and create new things.
I feel that we
share the desire of doing theatre for a purpose, in this case, to honour the
great women of the history of the world who fought for our rights and showed us
that everything is possible if you believe in and fight for that.
Women are not
less than men and we have to keep fighting for those who don’t have the freedom
to be themselves.

Day 6
I arrived at
LIPA and Rowena Gander was already warming up to perform ‘The Ten Inch Heels’
for us (check my post about that).
After the lunch
break we had our PHOTO SHOOT that is now on The Open Eye Gallery :DDD
Take a sneak
peek of our costumes. Be READY FOR OUR COMPLETLY TRANSFORMATION!!!
See you Saturday ;)
11AM, 12PM & 1PM Royal Albert Dock
4PM Open Eye Gallery
I have no words
to describe how special it was to perform ‘Wicked Women’. As a woman, it was
really exciting to share the story of these strong women that fought for the
rights that I have today. I felt we were honouring them.
During the
performance, I could see some people thrilled by the piece, especially women that
felt our purpose. The audience was really receptive and instantaneously
connected with us. The feedback was very positive and encouraged us to move
forward as a group.
I’m so proud of
being part of this amazing project! I’m sure it has the power to remind contemporary
society of the fight for women’s rights and how important it is to keep
fighting for those who doesn’t have the right to speak for themselves.
The piece will now be developed as a touring piece for Tmesis.
